Chris Kwabena Oteng

Chris Kwabena Oteng was born to Ghanaian parents of Ashanti ethnic extraction some 48 years ago on July 31, 1962 in Kumasi, the regional capital of the Ashanti Region. As a result I am a full blooded Ghanaian who has lived all my life in Accra – the capital city of Ghana.

Interestingly, I had my primary level education in the city of Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. I progressed and entered into secondary school education at the Prempeh College in Kumasi – the regional capital of Ashanti Region in 1975; and completed my studies for my Ordinary level certificate of Education from the West African Examinations Council in June, 1980. In the same year, September 1980, I continued my education at the sixth form level at the Konongo-Odumase Secondary School, also in the Ashanti Region. I completed my studies for an advanced level certificate at the same school in June, 1982. As this was the education system being operated by the central government authorities for anybody to enter or gain selection into a government university and/or seek tertiary level instruction to obtain a university degree and/or diploma at a polytechnic campus.

A besetting problem in my family life prevented me from entering a Ghanaian University and to study full fledged for a university degree. Thus, to study for a university degree was free at that time. There were no tuition fees to be paid once you make the admission grades and get admitted to a course of study in a faculty in a government university. Initially, I failed to make the admission grades which would have effectively qualified me for admission to a tuition free fees university in Ghana. I, then opted to join the Ghana Army – which my father objected strongly on the grounds that the military was too tainted with military coup d’etat; upheavals and had developed a knack for subverting constitutional rule in Ghana between 1979/1983.

The defining moments for my life neither came when caught between these two evils of not being able to make time to attend university full fledged nor enter the, military as I had wished. I opted to study part time in the evenings for a British professional qualifications and hassle by the day for work and make some income and get by in life in 1986.

As at now, I hold a postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives in London, United Kingdom of which I am a full member in 1996. On the converse, I have a professional certification in purchasing and supply management from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of London, United Kingdom, all in 1996.

Tentatively, in 1996, I started a firm – Corban Konsultin Koncept in Accra, Ghana to provide Business Development Services (BDS) to small and medium scale enterprises in Ghana. My work as an independent Consultant is geared towards working with both Ghanaian and foreign business interests and enterprises to explore the many beautiful business opportunities in Ghana. The thrust of my business consultancy work over the last 15 years had been spent in trying to revamp the failing railway sector of the Ghanaian economy.

I am happily married with a wife and five children – three boys and two girls for that matter. I am an ordinary member of the Club of Florence in Italy.

It is my greatest expectation to grow to become an independent business consultant of international repute. God bless!
